Skanda Shasti Kavacham
Skanda Shasti Kavacham is a song composed in Tamil by Devaraya Swamigal on Lord Muruga. It is a prayer to Lord Muruga to shower His grace. It is said that regular chanting of this song causes all the predicaments of life to be resolved. It is also known to be said that if a person chants the full song 36 times a day will be bestowed with all kinds of Wealth.

The Skanda Sashti Kavacham is an armour created by simple, grammatical, and poetical verses dedicated to Lord Muruga in Tamil. A rare and a valuable treasure, it is handed down to the whole humanity by Sri Math Devaraya Swamigal who was born in Tamilnadu between 1820 and 1830. Skanda Sashti Kavacham is the most popular among the six other Kavachams written in Tamil by him.
The word ‘Kavacham’ in Tamil ordinarily means ‘Armour’ in English. When chanted daily with concentration and devotion, the Kavacham serves as a protective armour to the devotees and confers great spiritual and material benefits. This extraordinary treasure not only helps one to be successful in one’s daily life but also has the power to resolve all the life’s plights; people without children enjoy fertility; prosperty and plenty abounds; and pease prevails at the home of its sincere devotees. Shielding the readers from their current sufferings and anxieties of the future, the sashti armour shower enormous grace. In short, its readers receive protection – physically, mentally, and morally. It automatically shields them in unforeseen- unfortunate circumstances.

The Kavacham consists of 238 lines, with four lines in ‘Kaappu’ and two lines in ‘Kural’. Throughout the kaappu part, the author discusses the effects of the Kavacham on the devotee who recites it with due dedication, and the grammar that is employed here is ‘ Naerisai Venba’.
Consisting of two lines, the ‘Kural’ is the prayer part created to win the heart of Lord Muruga. The grammar that is followed here is ‘Kural Venba’.
